3 Easy Ways to Prepare Your Home for Spring

As temperatures rise and flowers bloom, we also begin to emerge from our winter cocoons.  The sunshine, fresh air, energy, and excitement extend into our interiors with simple activities. Take a look…

1. Declutter & Edit Decor to Reduce Unnecessary Layers

As we transition our closets from our winter clothes to warmer weather clothing, we can also transition our homes. For example, after a long winter, we all tend to have an abundance of throws and pillows. Take this opportunity to minimize those unnecessary layers of warmth and bulk throughout our home.

Other winter home and decor layers to consider editing are the extra candles we brought out to create ambiance during the shorter days and the extra jackets and boots at the back door. And you get bonus points if you can recognize which of these items can be donated or recycled. (I'm terrible at this myself and may be in need of some counseling over it. #butwhatifIneedit)

2. List All Areas in Need of a Spring Cleaning

Another significant, feel-good task you can do is to clean the areas that we weren't able to during the winter months. For example, clean out dark corners, inside/outside windows since you’ll be opening them more, outdoor living spaces, porches, loggias, etc.

3. Swap Out Last Season's Decor with Spring Inspired Pieces

Don't want to eliminate that winter pillow/floral/candle? Consider switching out these items for something a bit brighter and lighter. If you want your decor to look like a designer did it, read How to Think Like an Interior Designer for inspiration.

Focus on these three core areas for the transition from the darker, heavier decor of winter to lighter, fresher Spring: Edit what you have. Clean what you will be enjoying. Switch out what you will keep.
