5 Beautiful Chairs We'd Love to Incorporate into Your Designer Home
Why do sofas seem to get all the attention? Whether we find ourselves in the purchasing stage or the ownership stage, sofas seem to get the majority of the focus as it relates to designing our rooms. Don't get me wrong, everyone seems to appreciate a good chair when they see one. However, their usefulness as it relates to form, comfort, and even art is often minimized as a simple and utilitarian need.
Take a look at these 5 very different chair styles as I take you through new ways to evaluate the beauty and function of chairs…
The Davies Chair
I look at this chair as pure, gorgeous art. It's like a beautiful sculpture designed to catch the eye and draw a viewer in, and yet it beckons one to come have a seat in order to experience it fully. The geometric lines of the legs are enhanced by the simplicity of everything else: the frame, cushions, and even the wood tone. A chair like this could delight so many areas in a home, such as an entry, an empty corner in a living or family room, or a bedroom that could benefit from both a seat and some art. Find yours here.
The Greige Velvet Chair
I recently binged Ted Lasso with my son Nicholas, and boy, could I have used this chair. Let's start with the looks. This has an elevated look (and sexiness!) that could be taken as "I am a chair to look at but not to use." I hate it when furniture insinuates that it's too fancy to actually use, don't you? However, this is the perfect TV binging chair, in my opinion. High arms to tuck into? Check. Comfy pillows to cuddle? Check. A wide seat that will allow me to lean back and throw my legs over the arms? Check, check. Grab yours here.
The Cairo Occasional Chair
Not only are the lines of this chair drop-dead gorgeous, but the fabric is spectacular. This is a great example of a perfect fabric-to-frame application. The chair itself is very simple, so we wouldn't necessarily want to do a loud & crazy pattern, which would certainly distract from the modern vibe. Yet, using a very plain and solid fabric could make this chair look somewhat average. But THIS fabric allows for a very neutral impact in a space while capitalizing on a distinct pattern that is carved out from the luxurious velvet. Living room, large bathroom, bedroom, large hall? I can see it used in any of these spaces. Make it yours here.
The Watson Swivel Chair
I couldn't talk about the subject of chairs without focusing on at least one leather chair. Leather has such a great texture that it adds interest to just about any space. The lines of this chair would go equally well in a well-designed modern family room, a mid-century living room, or a well-used library. The best part of this chair is...it's a swivel!
Imagine a great room where there are often many different kinds of areas within a singular open space. Talking to someone in the kitchen is a mere swivel away. Want to direct your focus to the TV or another conversation on the other side of the room? Easy peasy with this chair. Get yours here.
The Armstead Armchair
I've personally spent many an hour in this chair as my close friends (turned clients) have four of these in their Parlour. They live in a beautiful historic home in Oregon and have a great space off the main living room that needed a purpose. We designed this entire space around the symmetry of these inviting & equidistantly spaced chairs radiating around a singular, shared ottoman. This is the perfect chair to sit and read the paper (I know, but they actually still do that!), have cocktails when the neighbors drop in, have morning coffee while we scroll emails, or simply gaze out the beautiful leaded glass windows at the everchanging Oregon weather. Purchase yours here.

Choosing Chairs for Your Home
The moral of my story is that we should invest in chairs that bring us joy. Comfort is certainly one of the main driving forces, but it is important to take some time to look at the artful aspect as well. Do I need something that will make a statement or simply something that says, "Come rest your weary bones"? Next time you go chair shopping, take some time to imagine that this particular object will end up being the background for the memories we make with our friends and family.
