As a professional Interior Designer, you may expect that I love fabrics. What might surprise you is exactly how much I love the beautiful & luxurious fabrics that come together to make a room sing. Yes, that's right, I said sing. Don't ever question an Interior Designer's love for drama when it comes to fabrics! #iownit

Today, I’m sharing 4 of my favorite textiles to incorporate into your home for a luxurious, elevated look.

Elegant & Cozy Velvet Pieces

Let's start with velvets. If you want to add a sense of softness & luxury to a room, velvet is your answer. Coziness? Elegance? Velvet again.

There are silk velvets, polyester velvets, carved velvets, angora wool velvets (aka Mohair....my favorite!), and a slew of other types. The only thing that could make it better would be to construct a gorgeous velvet out of a performance fabric, and yes, thankfully, this previously believed unicorn of the fabric world DOES exist. And these days they aren't too difficult to find.

Fresh & Natural Linen Accents

Next up: Linen. This relaxed, natural fabric has a texture that is easily recognizable. Its calm and neutral appearance is great for use in relaxed settings where one may want a light and breathy vibe; think beachside spaces or an inviting guest room.

Though it may look like a more delicate fabric, the opposite is true, as linen is more practical and heavy-duty than it looks. Unlike other fabrics that can absorb heat, linen curtains feature a well-ventilated construction; therefore, they will not get sun-damaged as easily as other fabrics and remain cool throughout.

Durable & Luxe Leather Pieces

Next is leather. This durable and beautifully luxurious "fabric" is a necessity for nearly every home. For durability, you can't beat top-grain leather - meaning it's made from the top layer of the hide.

Believe it or not, top-grain leather looks and feels better over time. In a heavy-use area of the home, you can easily justify the additional expense, as top-grain leather will increase the life of the item it is on. The endless choice of colors, finishes, & textures makes a leather item a great addition to any space.

Soft & Warm Wool Accents

Last but not least, we have wool. Wool is natural, biodegradable, static-resistant, & easy to clean. It's great for use on furnishings and carpeting because it is a highly breathable fiber. As a result, wool will not feel clammy when you sweat.

And as a bonus, wool fibers will wick moisture away from your skin and evaporates. Wool accepts colors beautifully and is one of the most desirable fibers for use in flooring as it naturally possesses durability, cleanability, and crush resistance and is naturally flame retardant.

Since 2015, I have helped over 100 interior designers, builders, builders, and architects – from those just starting out to award-winning designers published in Architectural Digest, Luxe, and more.

My process starts with what is already true within you, then brings it to life in a way that resonates with your ideal clients.

I work with designers because they’re awesome. I’m a member of IDS (Interior Design Society) and served on the board of the Virtual Chapter. Design events I’ve attended include High Point, Vegas Market, and BOLD Summit (Business of Luxury Design).

When I’m not creating brands and websites, you can find me listening to audiobooks and going on long speed walks with friends.

I’m from Seattle and now live in New York City with my wife, Gaby.
